Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our Spanish language courses, learning process, and platform features.

The timeline varies based on several factors including your current level, study frequency, and learning goals. With consistent effort of 3-4 hours per week, most students reach basic conversational ability (A2 level) within 6-8 months. For intermediate fluency (B1-B2 levels), expect 12-18 months of regular study.

Our courses adapt to your pace, offering flexible scheduling that fits your lifestyle. Students who engage with supplementary materials, practice speaking regularly, and immerse themselves in Spanish media typically progress faster. We provide detailed progress tracking so you can monitor your development throughout your learning journey.

You'll need a reliable internet connection with minimum speed of 10 Mbps for video lessons, a computer or tablet with updated browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), and a headset with microphone for clear audio communication. A webcam is recommended but not mandatory.

Our platform works on Windows, Mac, and tablets. Mobile phones can be used for accessing materials and homework, though we recommend larger screens for live sessions. Before your first lesson, we offer a technical check session to ensure everything runs smoothly. No special software installation required – everything operates through your web browser.

Our teaching team consists of 15 qualified instructors, all native Spanish speakers from Spain and Latin America. Each teacher holds a degree in language education or linguistics, with additional certifications such as DELE examiner qualifications or ELE teaching credentials. Our instructors average 8 years of teaching experience.

We match students with teachers based on learning goals and preferred dialect (European Spanish or Latin American variants). All instructors speak English at intermediate level or higher, which helps beginners understand explanations more clearly. You can request a different teacher if your learning style requires it.

You can reschedule lessons up to 24 hours before the scheduled time without any penalty. Simply log into your account and select a new time slot that suits you. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will result in the lesson being counted as taken, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as medical emergencies.

We understand that life happens. Our flexible booking system allows you to manage your schedule through the online calendar. Unused lessons don't expire for 3 months from purchase date, giving you plenty of time to complete your course. For extended absences due to holidays or work commitments, speak with your coordinator about pausing your course.

Yes, we provide specialised courses tailored to different needs. Our Business Spanish programme covers professional vocabulary, formal correspondence, presentation skills, and negotiation language. The Travel Spanish course focuses on practical scenarios like booking accommodation, ordering food, asking directions, and handling common travel situations.

We also offer Medical Spanish for healthcare professionals, Spanish for Education sector workers, and exam preparation courses for DELE certifications at all levels (A1-C2). Each specialised course includes relevant vocabulary, role-play exercises, and authentic materials from your field. If you need a highly customised programme for your industry, we can develop a course specifically for your requirements.

About Doricu

We started Doricu in 2018 with a straightforward goal: create online Spanish courses that actually work for busy adults.

Spanish language learning at Doricu

Our founder, a language teacher with 12 years of classroom experience, noticed that traditional methods didn't fit modern lifestyles. Students needed flexibility, not rigid schedules. They wanted practical conversation skills, not just grammar rules.

We built our platform around these needs. Each course includes live video sessions with native speakers from Spain and Latin America, plus recorded lessons you can access anytime. Our curriculum focuses on real situations: ordering food, discussing work projects, understanding films without subtitles.

Since launch, we've taught 3,200 students across the UK. Our team now includes 18 certified instructors, all with university degrees in Spanish linguistics or education. We've developed 6 course levels, from complete beginners to advanced speakers preparing for DELE certification.

What Drives Us

We believe language learning should be accessible and effective. That means clear pricing (£45-£85 per month depending on your plan), transparent progress tracking, and teachers who respond to messages within 24 hours.

Our approach is simple: Small group classes (maximum 8 students), weekly one-on-one sessions with your assigned tutor, and interactive exercises that adapt to your learning speed. No gimmicks, just structured learning that respects your time.

Core Principles

  • Qualified Instruction: Every teacher holds a minimum B2 English level and DELE C1 Spanish certification. Most have taught for 5+ years.
  • Practical Focus: 70% of class time is conversation practice. Grammar is taught through context, not memorization.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Classes run from 7am to 10pm GMT. Miss a session? Watch the recording or join a makeup class.
  • Measurable Progress: Monthly assessments track your vocabulary growth, pronunciation accuracy, and conversation fluency using standardized CEFR criteria.
  • Cultural Context: Lessons include regional dialects, cultural customs, and current events from Spanish-speaking countries.
